Working with Deb

I believe you hold the wisdom and strength you need to move through your life journey. However, I am also innately aware we, as humans, often need connection, support and guidance. In the society here in the United States, there is often emphasis on individualism and a push to “do it right” and “do it on your own” without much encouragement or role modeling towards a reciprocity of both giving and receiving support as a means of survival, connection, and community. Knowing you are not alone on a felt level is an important need to our lived experience as humans in the modern world. This connection can be experienced on many levels – blood family, chosen family, spiritually, with nature, larger community, and through the therapeutic process.

I work in collaboration with you to support your development and growth of relationship(s) with yourself, your partner(s), others, and your environment through an eclectic approach. I show up with attunement, compassion, the occasional and needed direct nudge, and a sprinkling of humor to help surface your needs in the present moment so that together we can organize and make sense of your experience. I recognize that trust and safety are not a given but rather develop with time, relationship, and connection.

I am not the expert of your story, nor is anyone but you. I am, however, deeply passionate about supporting you in accessing, discerning, and moving towards your vision in life through guidance and care.

Core Lenses

Somatic & Body-Centered

We work together to integrate mind and body through deepening your awareness of sensing, feeling, and thinking – both the ways they are connected and how they may be disconnected. Somatic work can be quite subtle, or may involve more expansive movement and practice depending on the needs of the individual. Often breath, movement and mindfulness are used.

Trauma-Informed

Trauma manifests in many ways, and your process deserves care and nurturing. I work in collaboration with you to organize and integrate what may feel confusing and disconnected. We establish pacing that is specific to your needs, develop resources - both internal and external, and then titrate the unraveling of the layers encompassing your story and experiences.

Social Justice & Identity

I work from a social justice lens in support of understanding one's internal story and how it is impacted and influenced by relational, environmental, systemic, familial, cultural, and societal experiences. This involves engaging with both marginalized and privileged identities by acknowledging that working with all parts supports integration of the whole self.

Creative Expression

Use of the expressive arts as a therapeutic form is experiential and allows creative self-expression through mediums beyond the verbal. Creative process can encourage relationship with the unknown and finding resource in uncertainty. Use of movement, art, music, song, story, poetry, rhythm are some forms of creative expression that may manifest in our work.

Attachment & Relational

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a model deeply rooted in attachment theory and understanding the intricacies of our cycles and patterns. I use this model to support couples/relationship work, as well as individuals by helping to surface the wisdom in our actions and reactions, as well as recognize the ways they may no longer serve us.

Person-Centered

You are the expert in your story and experiences. I provide guidance and observation to support you in discerning your needs. Encouragement for autonomy, self-expression, and deepening into self-understanding.
